Red Velvet Cake

This is a favorite real Red Velvet Cake recipe with the cocoa, buttermilk and red food coloring giving this cake
a rich, velvety taste and texture.

Ingredients for Red Velvet Cake :
• 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 eggs
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• 2 tsp. cocoa
• 1 tsp. salt
• 1 cups buttermilk
• 1/2 cups oil
• 2 oz (1/4 cups) red food coloring
• 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions:
1. Place all dry ingredients in bowl.
2. Blend eggs with fork.
3. Add oil and blend again.
4. Add this mixture to dry ingredients and mix with wire whip until smooth.
5. Add and blend buttermilk.
6. Pour equally into three greased and floured 8" (20 cm) cake pans.
7. Bake at 350° F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes.
8. Let the red velvet cake cool about ten minutes and remove from pans.
9. Spread the icing on top of the red velvet cake when it has cooled completely.
Icing for real Red Velvet Cake:
Mix together until light and fluffy:
• 1/2 stick butter
• 8 oz. cream cheese
• 1 lb. box of powdered sugar
• dash of salt
• 1/2 tsp. vanilla
• 1 cup chopped nuts
Frost the red velvet cake with the icing mixture.
